A knowledgeable friend, using different colors of cloth, was holding them up or draping them over my wife's shoulder and the affect on appearance observed. Some colors give a person a washed out appearance, while other colors give a person a vibrant look. It all depends on a person's skin tone. As I looked at my watch, thinking of other things I could be doing, our friend asked if I wanted my colors done. Of course I declined. I think that I look just fine in stripes and plaids.

Is your sign wearing stripes and plaids? Without the right color combination, your sign will lack the "pop" to be noticed. I was recently working with a struggling restaurant to get them noticed. Not only was their lighted exterior signage not readable after dark, their interior graphics were monochromatic. Not one picture of food made me feel hungry. I could live without every picture of food on the wall and I am sure other customers felt the same way. We proposed colorful, mouthwatering pictures and modifying, or changing, the lighted signage outside, so it was not a blob at night. Unfortunately, they ran out of time before we could make an impact and the restaurant is now closed. I am not saying that we could have saved the company through signage, but I am saying that signage and their colors are very important.

Color evokes feelings in people, so the right colors are important. Ever notice that many fast food restaurants use yellow in their graphics? Yellow creates a welcoming atmosphere. It suggests light and activity, especially in its redder shades and tints. Red is an exciting, active color. Blue invokes serenity, wisdom and quiet... and so on. Attached is a chart showing the 15 easiest color combinations to view. Number one is black lettering on a yellow background. Number 15 is red lettering on a white background. We can help you with colors that are right for your business and message.

As we left our friend's house after having my wife's colors done, our friend said to me, "you know that 6" wide tie you are wearing went out in the 70's... but it looks good on you." I'm glad we have graphic designers to take care of your needs.

tags: signs, color, contrast, interior, exterior
